Tartans Finished Third at UAA Championships

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team finished third at the University Athletic Association Championships hosted by the University of Rochester on Saturday, October 27. The Tartans finished with 65 points with three earning All-Association honors after finishing the 8k race.

Senior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) was the first Tartan to finish the race as he did in fourth place in a time of 25:16.4. Junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was behind Gates in fifth place in a time of 25:20.2 as both finished as first team All-Association honorees.

Junior Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was the third Tartan to finish and earn All-Association honors in 13th place overall in 25:43.0.

Sophomore George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) finished 20th overall and senior Billy Littlefield (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) was 23rd overall in times of 25:51.3 and 25:55.1.

Also running for the Tartans was sophomore Brendan O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) in 37th place in 26:16.0, freshman Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) in 44th place in 26:29.6, junior Adam Cantini (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) in 47th place in 26:31.5 and sophomore Joe Pane (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) in 60th place in 26:54.7.

"This was a very good race and team finish," said head coach Dario Donatelli. "We are now looking forward to our next race at the Mideast Regional."
