Gates Named First Team Capital One Academic All-America

(TOWSON, Md.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) received another academic award as he was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A year after being named to the second team, Gates was honored this season with first team recognition. Gates helped lead the Tartan cross country team to a 17th-place finish at the Division III Championships in the fall. Gates, who graduated in May with a 4.00 GPA with a mechanical and biomedical engineering double major, also received a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in March.  He became a three-time All-Mideast Region runner in the fall after placing sixth at the regional event for the second consecutive year and was selected to the All-Academic team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
