Tartans Run in Schenley Park at Duquesne Duals

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team opened its 2013 season at the Duquesne Duals at Schenley Park Saturday morning. The race was the season opener for the Tartans who competed against Division I schools Duquesne, Pittsburgh, Robert Morris and Youngstown State while St. Vincent joined Carnegie Mellon as the two lone Division III schools.

Finishing first for the Tartans was freshman Curtis Watrp (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) in 20th place overall in a time of 27:35.5. Less than a second behind Watrp was fellow newcomer William Casazza in 21st-place.  The freshman crossed with a time of 27:36.1. Senior Mike Standish (Washington, Pa./Trinity) finished in 23rd-place with a time of 27:40.6.

Senior Brock Allen (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) and freshmen Riley Rodenburg (Erie, Colo./Peak to Peak) and Justin Rodenburg (Erie, Colo./Peak to Peak) finished in 26th, 27th and 28th, respectively.  Allen crossed the finish line in 27:47.7, Riley Rodenburg ended the race with a time of 27:51.9 and Justin Rodenburg finished in 27:55.1.
 
The Tartans will race again on Friday, September 13 at Cooper's Lake Campground for the Slippery Rock Invitational at 5:45 p.m.
