Newby Earns Automatic Qualification to the NCAA Championship

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – After finishing 13th overall at the 2013 Mideast Regional on Saturday,November 16, senior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) has placed himself among the elite cross country runners in the country earning an automatic qualification to the NCAA Championship meet.

Newby completed the regional 8k in 25:06, his best time of the season, leading the Tartans to a 5th-place finish.  Newby improved on his time from last year's regional meet by 25 seconds (25:31).

Newby is one of the 56 individuals and 32 seven-person teams who will be competing for the national title Saturday, November 23 in Hanover, Indiana. Last year at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship Newby finished with a time of 25:49 placing 118th overall.

The men's race will begin Saturday at 12:30 p.m. EST after the women's race.
