Five Tartans Garner All-Academic Honors From USTFCCCA

(NEW ORLEANS, La.) – Five members of the Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team were named to the All-Academic team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Seniors Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) an industrial design major and Brendan O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) and Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) both electrical and computer engineering majors received their All-Academic team honors during their final seasons as Tartans.  Junior chemical engineering major George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) and sophomore electrical and computer engineering major Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) also were named All-Academic honorees from the USTFCCCA.

The team earned honors sporting a 3.52 cumulative average and has been honored since the USTFCCCA began the All-Academic program.

The USTFCCCA All-Academic award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average and must have finished among the top 25 percent of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet.
