Tartans Race to Second Place at Slippery Rock

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team raced to a second-place finish at the Slippery Rock University Invitational on Friday, September 12 with five runners finishing in the top 10.

Senior George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) led the Tartans, finishing third overall in a time of 26:15.03 while sophomore Ryan Archer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) finished fourth in 26:34.91.

Senior Josh Antonson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) picked up an eighth-place finish for the Tartans in 26:56.86, leading a pack of Tartans who finished eighth through 12th. Behind Antonson was freshman Ryan Auld (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) in 27:01.05 as junior Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) crossed next in 27:16.29.

Following Julien was sophomore Curtis Watro (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) in 11th place in 27:16.61. Junior Brian Bollens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) then took 12th place in 27:18.17.

The Tartans will race again on Saturday, September 20 at Dickinson College.
