Tartans Place Second at Panther Opener to Start Season

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team opened its 2023 campaign at the Panther Opener at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Friday morning. The Tartans scored 54 points and placed second on the 5k course.

Results:

  • For the second consecutive year at the open, junior Colin McLaughlin crossed first for the Tartans and fourth overall in 14:26.8.
  • In his first meet as a Tartan, graduate student Matthew Porter placed eighth overall and was the second Cardinal and Gray runner to cross with a time of 14:37.9.
  • Sophomore Ryan Podnar placed 12th in 14:42.8.
  • Crossing in 15th with a time of 14:55.1 was freshman Matthew Short.
  • Junior Matthew Coyle crossed 18th in 14:57.1 to round out the scoring for the Tartans.

  • Saturday, September 23 at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational. The race starts at 10:30 a.m. at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pennsylvania.
