Kitahara Leads Trio of Tartans on All-UAA Squad

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team had three athletes honored by the University Athletic Association's (UAA) coaches on the All-UAA team when the awards were announced May 4.  Heading the list was junior Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) who was a first-team honoree. Freshmen Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) and Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) both found a spot on the second team.

The three helped the 22nd-ranked Tartans to the first national ranking in school history. The Cardinal and Gray recorded five team victories this season, including the Tartans' final four tournaments of the spring.

The trio also played a factor in the team setting three school records this past season. The first came at the Jekyll Island Collegiate when the Tartans broke the lowest three-round score with a 963. The Tartans then set a new single-round team score of 313 and two-round score of 631 at the Carnegie Mellon Spring Shootout held at The Links at Spring Church.

Kitahara finished the year with a scoring average of 80.8 through 19 rounds to lead the team for a third consecutive season. The junior won two events and finished in the top two in the last four events played this spring while she finished in the top 10 in four other events. She carded a career-best two-round score of 153 at the Generals Invitational in October, which set a new school record.

Lui finished second on the team with an average of 82.3 in 19 rounds of play. She recorded three top-three finishes and five top-ten finishes. Lui recorded a career-best round of 77 at the Generals Invitational.

Davis turned in her first collegiate medalist honors at the Carnegie Mellon Spring Shootout after winning the tiebreaker over Kitahara.  Davis averaged a 85.3 competing in all 19 rounds this season and recorded a career-best round of 77 in the opening round of the Spring Shootout.
