Women’s Golf Wins Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout, Sets Two School Records

(APOLLO, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team hosted the 36-hole Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout on Saturday and Sunday at The Links at Spring Church in Apollo, Pennsylvania. The Tartans carded a school record round of 301 Sunday to finish with a school record two-round total of 617 (316-301) to win the 10-team event on the 5,830-yard, par-74 course.

Sophomore Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) entered the clubhouse on Sunday afternoon with a career-best round of two-under par 72. The sophomore claimed top individual medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 150 (78-72).

Freshman Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) carded a one-under par 73 on Sunday to finish with a 153 (80-73) and tied for third individually in a field of 51 golfers. Classmate May Wang (Portland, Ore./Westview) shot a 156 (80-76) for the shootout and placed fifth.

Sophomore Catherine Tianhong Yu (Dalian, China/Walnut) fired a 158 (78-80) and senior Carly Jordan (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) carded back-to-back rounds of 81 to end the 36-hole event with a 162.

The Tartans entered a 'B' Team in the shootout and finished with a 647 (323-324) to place second in the field.

Leading the 'B' Team was freshman Grace Chen (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis) who carded even par 74 in round two and finished with a 152 (78-74) and second individually.

Juniors Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho) and Lavonca Davis (Pickerington, Ohio) by finished the event with a 163. Lui carded rounds of 77 and 86 while Davis shot 85-78. Sophomore Malina Rufo (Wellesley, Mass.) carded a 170 (84-86) and sophomore Shanice Lam (Hong Kong, China/International Christian School) ended with a 174 (84-90).

Two other Tartans competed as individuals with junior Sanchi Gupta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) shooting a 179 (90-89) while sophomore Cristina Pullen (Brownsville, Texas/Veterans Memorial) opened play with a 90 before withdrawing prior to round two.

The Tartans will be back on the Links September 24-25 when they travel to Houston, Texas for the 2018 NCAA Preview.
