Tartans Defeat RIT 2-1 in Weather Shortened Game

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team withstood a 50 minute lightning delay to defeat Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) 2-1 in the opening game of the Radisson Invitational at Carnegie Mellon, Saturday, September 10. The Tartans improve to 1-2 on the year while the Tigers drop to 1-2.

Sophomore Cecilia Zischkau (Washington, D.C./Oakcrest) scored the game-winner for the Tartans in the pouring rain in the 79th minute. Freshman Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) got around a defender and played a pass forward towards the corner where Zischkau picked it up and dribbled towards the endline. Zischkau got around a defender on the endline and put a shot to the near post with the outside of her right foot. The ball skipped off RIT's keeper who was sliding towards the post.

Zischkau's goal came after RIT nearly took the lead in the 74th minute. Sophomore keeper Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) made a save on a point-blank shot by Jamie Lewandowski and the rebound bounced right to her teammate Kimi Sisti who took a shot on the open net. Senior defender Kristen Suzich (Bethesda, Md./National Cathedral School) was on the line and cleared the shot to keep the game tied at 1-1.

RIT tied the game at 64:47 when Rachael Bromson was able to slip a shot high and through Albi's hands while the rain fell. Prior to her goal, Bromson had two other attempts that were saved by Albi and off the line by a defender.

Carnegie Mellon's Elsa Wu (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) gave her team the lead in the 56th minute. Freshman Amanda So (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary) collected a loose ball around the 18-yard box and tapped it around a defender to Wu who got around a defender and took the shot that beat Alyssa Henkel for the score.

The Tartans will be in action again on Sunday, September 11, when they host York College on the second day of the Radisson Invitational.
