Struble Named Regional Coach of the Year; Two Selected to All-Great Lakes Team

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – Following the Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team's record-setting season, head coach Yon Struble along with sophomores Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) and Lauren Simicich (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on the 2012 NCAA Division III Women All-Great Lakes Region Team. Struble's honor is the first for a Carnegie Mellon women's soccer coach while this is the fourth year in program history two Tartans have been named all-region.

Reid was honored by the NSCAA on the Great Lakes first team and as she led the Tartans' offense with nine goals scored and 21 points. Three of her goals were game winners while she recorded two multi-goal games including a hat-trick on the road against Grove City College. Simicich played every minute of the 2012 season as a central defender and was named to the Great Lakes second team. She helped limit the number of shots on goal to 65 with just nine goals scored for a team goals against average of .426 which ranked 10th in the nation to end the year.

The Tartans, who played in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III Championship in their first appearance in program history, finished the season ranked No. 6 in the nation and set team records for most wins in a season with 14, fewest losses in a season with one, and most shutouts in a season with 13. They also tied the program record for most consecutive shutouts with seven, a streak which closed out the year. The 13 shutouts led to a shutout percentage of .650 which ranked 13th in the nation.
