Liston Honored by UAA for Outstanding Play

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week and the Corvias ECAC Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week after compiling two shutouts in net for the Tartans on the road in UAA play.

Liston, who has played all but ten minutes in goal for the Tartans this season, earned her seventh and eighth shutout of the season as the Tartans defeated Brandeis University and No. 23 New York University each by 1-0 scores. In Friday's win at Brandeis, Liston made four saves as the Tartans scored in the 85th minute. Against New York on Sunday, the sophomore stopped one shot as the Violets only got off four shots for the match.

Liston now has eight shutouts for the season, ranking her at the top of the UAA in that category, while she is fourth in goals against average (.41). The Tartans were the only UAA women's soccer team to win twice for the weekend and now stand alone at the top of the league standings with a 3-1 mark.

Joining Liston with ECAC honors this week is freshman Tori Iatarola, who received rookie of the week honors for the third time. Iatarola earned assists on both goals scored for the weekend, serving in passes off corner kicks.

The Tartans will finish the season with a four-game home stand, starting with a non-conference match against Penn State Behrend at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28. On Friday, October 31 the Tartans will resume UAA play as they take on the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University at 7:30 p.m.
