Botz Records Eighth Shutout in 1-0 Win for #9 Tartans Against #22 Lynchburg

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team hosted 22nd-ranked Lynchburg College in a non-conference match on Sunday, October 22 with the Tartans prevailing 1-0. The win improves the Tartans record to 10-2-2 overall while the Hornets fall to 14-2.

In a game played mostly between the 18-yard boxes, the Tartans took advantage of an opportunity in the 21st minute and went on for the 1-0 victory.

Senior Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill. / Loyola Academy) scored the goal for the Tartans after junior Tessa Allen (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Bishop Montgomery) headed a ball across the box. The ball bounced and went under the foot of a defender as she tried to clear it. Iatarola was on the right side of the defender and calmly finished the shot to the opposite post for the game's only goal.

Lynchburg did put two shots on goal but fresman Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) made the routine saves and registered her eighth shutout of the season.

The Tartans will return to the field on Friday, October 27 at home against Emory University at 7:30 p.m.
