Williams Honored on CoSIDA Academic All-America Women’s Soccer Team

(AUSTIN, Texas) – Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer sophomore Camille Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio/The Seven Hills School) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Women's Soccer Team for Division III. The announcement, which came out Tuesday, honors 33 women's players from across the nation.

Williams was a starting central defender for the Tartans who helped shutdown the opponent's attack and was part of the defense that finished the year with a goals against average of 0.46 with 13 shutouts. The 13 team shutouts tied the school record for most in a season. On the field, Williams earned her second All-UAA honor this season when she was named to the second team.

Williams maintains a 4.0 GPA as a chemistry major with a minor in business and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America second team. She is one of four sophomores to earn the award this year, all of whom have a 4.0. The 33 women on the Division III Academic All-America® team have an average GPA of 3.94 with 13 at 4.0 or above. The first team average GPA is 3.99.

Last summer, Williams worked in an inorganic chemistry lab at the University of Cincinnati. She is a member of Plaidvocates, a peer health and wellness advocacy program for athletes and introduced the idea of an "Athlete Cook Off" workshop to promote healthy eating.

The Tartans completed the season in the final 16 of the NCAA Championship tournament, were ranked eighth at the conclusion of the regular season, and faced six nationally ranked opponents this season.

Williams is the second Carnegie Mellon women's player to earn Academic All-America, joining Carson Quiros who received the award as a senior in 2015.
