Tartans Shutout Behrend and Tally Five in Second Victory of the Season

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team was victorious for the second straight day at the Penn State Behrend Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament, defeating the host Lions by a 5-0 score. The Tartans are now 2-0 for the season as Penn State Behrend drops to 0-2.

Inside The Box Score

  • The Tartans got forward early and scored in the first seconds of the third minute off a goal by senior Cecelia Dieterich. The play was assisted by junior Emma Shirzad.
  • The 1-0 lead held through the next 59 minutes until freshman Audrey Bianco netted her first career goal on an unassisted play.
  • Junior Gemma Jefferson added to the lead with a goal in the 74th minute.
  • Freshman Sai Sankhe also recorded her first career goal with a strike in the 82nd minute off an assist from sophomore Vivian Wang.
  • The final goal of the game came off the foot of graduate student Camila Bodden in the 88th minute. Her tally was assisted by graduate student Kaitlyn Montague playing in her second game as a Tartan.

Notes

  • Jefferson was named the tournament MVP and recorded her second straight game with a goal.
  • Dieterich now has three goals for the season.
