Owens and O’Connor Selected to All-ECAC Team

(DANBURY, Conn.) – Carnegie Mellon University graduate student Caitlynn Owens and sophomore Abby O'Connor earned regional recognition from the Eastern College Athletic Conference as the 2023 Division III Women's Soccer All-ECAC Team was announced this week. Owens was named to the first team while O'Connor was named to the second team.

Owens, who was recently named an All-American by United Soccer Coaches, anchored the defense for the Tartans as a center back who also scored two goals for the season with two assists. The Tartans tied the school record for shutouts in a season with 13 and also tied the school record for most consecutive shutouts with seven. Owens played every minute of University Athletic Association (UAA) play, as the Tartans faced five ranked opponents in a five-week stretch.

O'Connor, playing in her first full year as the starting goalkeeper, surrendered just six goals against while facing six nationally ranked teams. Her six goals against is third-best all-time for a sophomore goalkeeper while her 0.42 goals-against average is second-best for a sophomore and ranks fifth all-time for a season. O'Connor's goals-against average was also sixth-best in the nation. She recorded four shutouts in league play, seven overall, and shared in five other shutouts throughout the season while registering a record of 10-1-5.
