Tartans Win Nine Events in Victory Over Allegheny and Washington and Lee

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team won nine events as it defeated Allegheny College 210-47 and Washington and Lee University 153-109 in a home meet on Saturday afternoon.

The 200-yard medley relay team of freshmen Anna Wong (Solon, Ohio/Solon) and Tiana Marrese (Pittsburgh, Pa. / South Fayette) and juniors Felicia Wang (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) and Gillian Crews (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) stopped the clock for a first place finish with a time of 1:50.62.

Freshman Emma Shi (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) took the title in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.38 and the 400-yard IM in 4:37.93.

In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Sarah Winget (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) tapped the wall for a time of 2:12.90 and another first place finish for the Tartans.

Sophomore Amanda Kuhn (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and freshman Kim Hochstedler (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) added two more titles to the Tartans tally with a time of 25.23 in the 50-yard freestyle and 2:33.04 in the 200-yard breaststroke, respectively.

Crews finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.87 and then helped the 200-yard freestyle team with Kuhns, Marrese and sophomore Allison Kirkby (West Chester, Pa./Conestoga) to a first place finish with a time of 1:41.44.

Representing the Tartans in diving at the height of one and three meters, sophomore Mallory Evanoff (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) had a first place finish in both events with a score of 196.95 and 184.35, respectively.

The women's swimming and diving team will compete December 4-6 in the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College.
