Tartans Have Many Strong Performances in Victory at Washington and Lee

(LEXINGTON, Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team topped Washington and Lee University on the road on Saturday, October 21 in the first dual meet of the season for the Tartans who are ranked 12th in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) national dual meet poll. The Tartans racked up 161 points to 101 for the Generals.

Top Performances

  • The 200-yard medley relay of sophomore Savannah Xu, sophomore Audrey Lambert, sophomore Grace Malinger, and graduate student Mathea Myhrvold touched first in 1:48.60 to top last week's time of 1:48.96.
  • Freshman Ellie Leeming was five-hundredths of a second ahead of fellow freshman Jessica Zheng in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a winning time of 10:58.63. She later won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:22.19, just under two seconds ahead of freshman teammate Alice Yueh.
  • Xu won the 100-yard backstroke by more than three seconds in a time of 57.04 and cruised to a victory in the 200-yard backstroke, winning by more than seven seconds in 2:04.47.
  • The breaststrokers hit their marks with Lambert leading a sweep in the 100-yard event in 1:06.77 and the 200-yard event in 2:26.26.
  • Sophomore Audrey Soetanto touched first in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:10.50.
  • Xu won her third event of the day with a near four-second victory in the 200-yard IM in 2:07.34.

  • The Tartans will race against the University of Chicago and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday, October 28. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
