Four Tartan Women Invited to NCAA Swimming Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University women's swimmers have earned the right to compete at the 2024 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The championships will be hosted at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on March 20-23.

Sophomore Savannah Xu will return to the national meet after being invited in three individual events. Xu is seeded 15th in the 200-yard IM, 21st in the 200-yard backstroke, and 23rd in the 100-yard backstroke.

Sophomore Sophie Elliott reached B cut times this year for the first time and will reap the rewards by swimming in three events at the NCAA Championships. Elliott was invited in the 200-yard butterfly and is seeded 21st. She'll also swim the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly where she is seeded 27th and 49th, respectively.

Sophomore Eliana Szabo met the B cut this year in the 200-yard freestyle and is seeded 28th in the event. She is making her second appearance at the national meet after swimming last year in the 100-yard freestyle and as part of three relays.

Joining the three individuals at the meet will be junior Abigael O'Donnell, who is part of the 800-yard freestyle relay invited to the meet. The 800-yard freestyle relay is seeded 19th.

The Tartans will also swim in the 200-yard freestyle relay (seeded 23rd), 400-yard freestyle relay (seeded 23rd), 400-yard medley relay (seeded 24th), and 200-yard medley relay (seeded 25th).

Preliminary finishes that score in the top 16 earn the chance to score points for the team in the finals with the chance to earn the distinguished honors of All-America or All-America Second Team.
