Three Earn ITA All-America Recognition

(SKILLMAN, N.J.) – Two seniors and one sophomore on the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team finished the year as All-Americans when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its All-America teams for 2012. Laura Chen (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) earned the honor for the eighth time while Courtney Chin (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) was named to the list for the third time to finish their respective careers. Sophomore Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) earned the honor for the first time for her play in singles competition.

Chen finished the year at the NCAA Championships winning her first round match before falling in the second round. She also paired with Chin to reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship, earning All-America honors for both singles and doubles play. Chen earned All-America honors in both singles and doubles competition for each year of her career.

Chin's pairing with Chen this season marked the second All-America honor in doubles competition for the senior. She was also named an All-American in singles her sophomore year when she won her first round match at the NCAA Singles Championship. Chen and Chin finished the year ranked sixth nationally in doubles.

Cecil earned a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship this season but had to withdraw due to an injury obtained during the team's run to the NCAA quarterfinals. She earned All-America honors for finishing the season ranked ninth nationally.
