#6 Tartans Battle Tough in Late Loss to #9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

(CLAREMONT, Calif.) - The #6 Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team battled #9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Tuesday, March 12 at the Athenas home site during its spring break tour in California. The Athenas moved to 8-0 on the year but not before the Tartans took two matches.

The Tartans (6-3) won matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 2 singles. Freshman Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) and freshman Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) won their doubles match over Yvonne Likomanova and Sarah Kukino 8-2 while sophomore Chelsea Motie (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) won her singles match 6-4, 6-2 over Abby Haley.

Motie and sophomore Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) nearly pulled out their No. 2 doubles match but fell 9-7 to Crystal Lim and Caroline Ward. Hamstra, Tsu and sophomore Anglea Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) each played to three sets in singles with Tsu and Hamstra winning the first set each.

The Tartans will close out the trip with a match against Sewanee - University of the South at 12:00 p.m. PT on Wednesday, March 13.
