Tartans Defeat Oberlin 9-0 on the Road

(OBERLIN, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team traveled north to Oberlin, Ohio for a dual match with the Yeowomen and won 9-0 to improve to 2-0 on the year before they go on a hiatus until March.

In doubles, junior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) defeated Grace Porter and Brenna Sheldon 8-2 at No. 1 doubles while freshman Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and sophomore Elizabeth Martin (St. Simons Island, Ga./Frederica Academy) won 8-3 over Emma Brezel and Erin Johnson at No. 2 doubles. The Tartans pulled off the doubles sweep when sophomores Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) and Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) won 8-4 over Olivia Hay and Ariana Abayomi.

In singles play, Pavia won 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot over Sheldon as Tsu won at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2 over Porter. At No. 3 singles, Torres defeated Johnson 6-4, 6-0 wiith Martin winning at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0. Raschke picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles as Hamstra defeated Hay 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The Tartans will pick up action again on March 12 when they play the University of Redlands in California.
