Tartans Down IUP and Robert Morris to Remain Perfect in Dual Play

(MONROEVILLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team stayed perfect on the season with an 8-1 victory over Division II Indiana University of Pa. and a 9-0 decision over Division I Robert Morris University Sunday, February 16 at The Club in Monroeville, Pa. The two wins improve the Tartans record to 5-0.

The Tartans won every singles match as sophomores Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) and Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) each won twice. Tsu defeated Sophie Butland of IUP 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 before playing No. 1 against Carolina Mourao Teixeira of Robert Morris in winning 6-0, 6-1.  Hamstra won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 over Rachel Wood of IUP and then played in the five spot and won 6-1, 6-4 over Dounia Zinbi of Robert Morris.

In doubles play, junior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) won at twice at No. 1 doubles by the scores of 8-5 over Tanya Timko and Butland of IUP and 8-2 over Robert Morris' Alina Schibol/Diana Mirceta.
