No. 8 Tartans Rattle Redlands in a 6-3 Victory

(REDLANDS, Calif.) - The eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team continued its spring break trip in California with a 6-3 win against the No. 13 University of Redlands on Wednesday, March 12 in Redlands, California.

Despite dropping all three doubles matches to the Bulldogs, the Tartans came back and dominated all six singles matches.

The Tartans conquered in number three and four singles, quickly bringing the Tartans back in the match, as sophomore Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) and senior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) defeated their opponents in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively.

Freshman Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y. / Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) and junior Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) both fought back from first set defeats to give the Tartans a 4-3 lead as Pavia won at number two singles and Pratt at number one.

Sophomore Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) confirmed the comeback for the Tartans by also forcing a third set at number six singles and winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 for match point. Freshman Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) finished off the singles sweep with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win at number five singles.

The Tartans are now 9-1 on the season and will be competing again Thursday, March 13 at 10th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
