Three Women’s Tennis Players Receive NCAA Individual Invite

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – When the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Committee selected individuals and doubles teams to compete in the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships, Carnegie Mellon University, ranked fifth nationally, found three of its athletes on the list. Sophomore Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel), ranked tops in the Atlantic South, was selected to play in singles competition while the Tartans No. 1 doubles duo of senior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) will compete in doubles play.

Pavia, the Most Valuable Player of the University Athletic Association (UAA), finished the regular season with a mark of 11-7 as the Tartans No.1 player.  The sophomore ended the season with four straight victories and won seven of her last eight singles matches including two at the UAA Championship. Raschke and Sidell have an 11-5 doubles record and are ranked second in the Atlantic South Region.

This marks the first trip to the championships for all three athletes.

The individual championships shall consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Play is set for May 21-23, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, and will be hosted by Ohio Northern University and Warren County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
