(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened the 2015-16 season with its home invitational, competing against Duquesne University. Friday's competition was played outside while rain forced Saturday's play inside.

Her singles wins came against Sarah Shashura, 8-2, and Tyra Abdalla, 8-1. Sophomore Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) picked up two singles wins as well, defeating Maddy Adams in three sets, 7-6(7-3), 3-6, 10-8, and Alexa Miller by a 9-7 score.

Freshman Charlotte Deiss (Matthews, N.C./East Mecklenburg) had success on the doubles court with sophomore Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) and senior Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley). Deiss and Lai defeated Ally Miller and Abdalla by a 6-4 score while the freshman paired with Hamstra to defeat Abdalla and Taylor Levinson, 6-2.

The Tartans will be back on the court for a dual match against Grove City College on Friday, September 18 at Grove City.
