Tartans Blank Oberlin

(OBERLIN, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team defeated Oberlin College on Saturday, October 10 in their third duel match this season with a 9-0 victory.  The win moves the Tartans record to 3-0.

The Tartans led 3-0 going into singles play, earning one point by way of forfeit and two points with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Junior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and freshman Minami Makino won  8-5 while teammates freshman Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/ Mayfield) and senior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) won 8-3.

The Tartans continued their sweep over Oberlin in singles play with Tsu's 7-5, 6-3 win at first singles, Vizelman's 6-4, 6-2 win at second and Makino's 6-0, 6-1 win at third.  Sophomore Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/ St. Andrew's Episcopal School) won her match with a pair of 6-2 victories and senior Abby Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Freshman Charlotte Deiss (Matthews, N.C./East Mecklenburg) earned the final point by way of an Oberlin forfeit.
