No. 6 Tartans Shut Down Division I Saint Francis, 5-2

(MONROEVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team advanced its record to 6-0 with a 5-2 win against Division I Saint Francis University on Saturday, February 13. The Tartans earned the doubles point before winning the first four singles matches.

Freshman Minami Makino (Whittier, Calif./Sunny Hills) and sophomore Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) teamed to defeat Rafaela Panizza and Brittany Plaszewski, 6-1, at first doubles moments before junior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and senior Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) won 6-2 at third doubles.

Sidell was the first to finish singles when she won 6-4, 6-2 in the second slot. Torres then won by the same score to make the team score 3-0. Senior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) won the match point at first singles coming from behind in the third set to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Freshman Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) won the final match for the Tartans at fourth singles, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6.

The Tartans will be back in action on Friday, February 19 against Division I Duquesne University before playing for the ITA Division III National Indoor Championship on February 26-28 in Greencastle, Indiana at DePauw University.
