No. 6 Tartans Fall to Duquesne for First Loss of 2016

(HARMAR, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team played Division I Duquesne University on Friday, February 19, falling 4-3 after picking up the doubles point. The Tartans are now 6-1 on the year while the Dukes move to 7-1.

The Tartans led after doubles, 1-0, winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Senior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) paired with freshman Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) at second doubles to win 6-3 before senior Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) and junior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) won 7-6 (7-5) at third doubles.

Sophomore Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) won her No. 3 singles match, 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 while freshman Minami Makino (Whittier, Calif./Sunny Hills) won at No. 5 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

The Tartans will next face DePauw University in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Friday, February 26, which will be played on DePauw's campus in Greencastle, Indiana.
