No. 7 Tartans Fall to Two Top-Ranked Teams

(CLAREMONT, Calif.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team finished its spring break tour with a pair of losses on consecutive days against two of the nation's best in Claremont, California. On Thursday, the seventh-ranked Tartans fell 9-0 to No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges while the 12th-ranked Sewanee Tigers stole a 5-3 win on Friday.

On Thursday, freshman Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) fell in a tough three-set third singles match 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 10-5 while sophomore Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) also played in a tiebreaker at number six singles before falling 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Against the Tigers, the Tartans fell behind 2-1 after doubles with their point coming in the second position from senior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) and Vizelman, 8-3.

The Tartans picked up wins at number two singles and number four singles with junior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 and Vizelman winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Sixth singles remained unfinished as the match ended in a 5-3 score.

The Tartans will return home and face Grove City College on Wednesday, April 16 with a 4:00 p.m. start time.
