No. 9 Tartans Finish Fourth at UAA Championship

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team finished fourth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship after falling, 6-3, to the University of Chicago in the third-place match on Sunday, April 24. The Tartans, ranked ninth in the nation are now 15-7 for the season, while the Maroons, ranked 16th in the nation are 11-5.

All three doubles matches were back-and-forth before the Maroons were able to take 8-6 wins at all three positions.

Chicago continued to earn victories as it won at first and second singles to clinch the win. Sophomore Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) and freshmen Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) and Marina Selenica (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day School) earned the points for the Tartans at third, fourth and sixth singles, respectively.

The Tartans will now wait to see if they are selected to compete for the NCAA Championship, as bids for the national tournament will be released on May 9. The tournament will begin on campus sites May 12 or 13.
