Women’s Tennis Lai Honored by UAA

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance in helping the 10th-ranked Tartans to a 6-3 victory over then seventh-ranked Amherst College to close out the Cardinal and Gray's west coast spring trip.

Lai fought back from a set down, in her sixth singles match, to force a third set with a tiebreaker win in the second, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4, to clinch the match for the Tartans. The win marked the first in program history for the Tartans over Amherst. Lai also teamed with sophomore Jamie Vizelman in third doubles and won 8-5 to give Carnegie Mellon a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play. Lai and Vizelman also claimed a victory at third doubles against eighth-ranked Wesleyan College earlier in the week.

The Tartans will be back in action when they travel to Washington and Lee University to face the 16th-ranked Generals on Saturday, March 25.
