Five Named to Women’s Tennis All-UAA Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Five Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis players were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Team on Tuesday, May 16 following the 2016-17 season. This marks the first year the Association named an All-Tournament team and an All-UAA team.

Senior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and junior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) are first-team members for their singles play and doubles play this season. Torres played number one singles for the Tartans, accumulating a record of 16-9 in dual matches. Sidell earned her award at second singles after a 16-6 dual mark and 20-9 overall singles record. The pair combined at first doubles for the Tartans and finished the year with a 15-16 mark.

Sophomore Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) and freshmen Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) and Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) earned second-team honors. Vizelman played third singles for the Tartans and finished with a team best record of 24-7 for the season. She held a 19-4 record at third singles, a 1-0 record at second singles and a 4-3 record during tournament play. Ollis and Rao paired at second doubles for the Tartans and closed the season with a 14-11 record from that position. For the season, they finished 17-13 as a doubles pair.

Rao also earned honorable mention status as a fourth singles player. She tallied a record of 22-10 in her first campaign for Carnegie Mellon with an 18-8 fourth singles dual match record.
