Tartan Women’s Tennis Releases 2020-21 Roster

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – While the 2020-21 season has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carnegie Mellon University head women's tennis coach Andrew Girard, in his 18th year at the helm of the Tartans, has released the roster for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Below are a few facts about the makeup of the 14-member women's tennis team.

Class Years: Seniors (3); Juniors (6); Sophomores (2); Newcomers (3)

Natives Of: California (3); Florida (2); Illinois (1); Maryland (1); Michigan (1); Toronto (1); New Jersey (3); Ohio (1); Oregon (1);

College of Study: College of Engineering (2); Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences (6); Mellon College of Science (1); Tepper School of Business (5)

Notes:

  • Tartans ended the 2019-20 shortened season ranked fifth nationally, marking the fourth straight year the Cardinal and Gray finished the season ranked in the top 10 and 11th in the last 13 years.
  • Tartans placed third at the 2020 ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
  • Danna Taylor repeated as the ITA Southeast Regional Singles Champion and paired with 2020 graduate, Courtney Ollis, to claim her second straight ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Championship.
  • Three players were selected as 2020 Division III Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Americans with one on current roster: Danna Taylor (singles and doubles)
  • Five players named to the All-UAA Team last season with three on the current roster: Lindy Cornwall, Danna Taylor and Bin Zheng
  • Nine members were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athletes with eight on current roster: Victoria Chang, Lindy Cornwall, Alex Iordache, Beata Liberchuk, Melissa Strome, Ola Wojciak, Janabelle Wu and Bin Zheng
  • Last season marked the 11th consecutive season and 18th of the last 19 years that the women's tennis team received all-academic team accolades by the ITA.
  • The women's program earned the ITA Community Service Award for the Atlantic South for its work in the Rise Against Hunger event, working in an elementary school tutoring program and making Valentine's Day cards for children in hospitals.
