#5 Tartans Win Ninth Straight Defeating Division I Saint Joseph's

Wojciak takes first Tartan point in singles

(HARMAR, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked fifth in Division III, hosted Division I Saint Joseph's University at Alpha Tennis Club in Harmar, Pennsylvania, on Friday. The Tartans won a battle 5-2 to improve to 9-0 on the season.

The Tartans secured the doubles point with victories at the second and third positions. Senior Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J. / South Brunswick) and junior Ola Wojciak (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) won 6-4 at second doubles while freshman Farida Abdelmoneum (Portland, Ore. / K12 International Academy) and sophomore Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) won 6-3 at third doubles.

In singles play, Saint Joseph took the lead with wins at first and second singles before Wojciak won in a third set super tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (14-12) at the third spot. Qiang then gave the lead back to the Tartans with a straight set win at six, winning 6-0, 6-0 before Abdelmoneum sealed the win with a third set super tiebreaker victory at four singles. The freshman won 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).

The Tartans return to action on Saturday, April 3 with a 12:00 p.m. match at Allegheny College.
