#11 Tartans Open NCAA Tournament with 5-0 Win Against #40 Hope

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis opened its 16th trip to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship with a 5-0 win against 40th-ranked Hope College in the second round on Friday. The match was played on Carnegie Mellon's campus.

The Tartans took the first point of the match at third doubles with an 8-0 victory by freshman Zoe Angell (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) and junior Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School). The second doubles pair of senior Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) and freshman Crystal Zhou (Austin, Texas / LASA) then won 8-1 before senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and junior Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) defeated their opponent at first doubles, 8-3.

In singles play, Qiang finished first in the sixth position with a 6-0, 6-0 score to put the Tartans in position for the win.

Cornwall then finished at third singles by the same 6-0, 6-0 score with the Tartans leading by a set at each of the other positions.

The Tartans move on to the third round and will face the winner of fifth-ranked Middebury College and North Central College at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.
