#15 Tartans Defeat #30 Brandeis for Fifth at UAA Championship
(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team finished fifth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Championship after defeating 30th-ranked Brandeis University, 5-3, on Sunday. The Tartans are now 13-6 while the Judges move to 10-9.
How it Happened:
- The Tartans swept doubles play for the second straight match.
- Sophomore Anna Chow and sophomore Divya Venkatarama claimed the first point with an 8-2 win at second doubles.
- One and three doubles went into tiebreakers with the Tartans third tandem of sophomore tandem of Anika Joshi and freshman Ainika Hou winning the breaker 8-6, making the score 2-0.
- The Cardinal and Gray top tandem of senior Danna Taylor and junior Sarah Yang completed the sweep also winning the breaker 8-6.
- Brandeis claimed a point at four singles to cut the Tartans lead to 3-1.
- Yang then won 6-0, 6-1 at the top spot, but NYU was victorious at five and singles which made the score 4-3.
- Taylor sealed the win for the Tartans with a 6-2, 6-4 win at second singles.
