Bio

Sarah Short joined the women's tennis team for her first season as an assistant coach in 2012-13. Short is a Pittsburgh native who graduated from Denison University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in history.

In her second season with the team, Short was honored nationally as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Assistant Coach of the Year. The season saw the Tartans advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship, finish second in the University Athletic Association (UAA), place second in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship and hold a national ranking of eight. The team finished with a 19-5 overall mark and defeated nine nationally ranked opponents. Additionally, junior Angela Pratt earned All-America honors by advancing to the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championship.

In Short's third season, the Tartans returned to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals, placed second at the UAA Championship and the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, were ranked as high as fifth in the nation and had three players compete at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships with sophomore Vanessa Pavia, senior Bryn Raschke and freshman Cori Sidell earning All-America honors.

Despite not making the tournament field in 2016, the Tartans earned a final national ranking of 12 by the ITA and finished second at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship for the fifth consecutive year. Short helped mentor senior Brooke Tsu who earned All-America honors, competed at the NCAA Singles Championship and was named the ITA Division III Most Improved Player. Freshman Jamie Vizelman received regional rookie of the year honors while senior Abbey Hamstra was named the regional winner of the Arthur Ashe Jr. for Leadership and Sportsmanship award.

With just one senior in the line-up, Short assited the 2012-13 team to a second-place finish at the UAA Championship, six wins over nationaly ranked opponents and a third-round showing in the NCAA Championship.

While at Denison, Short competed on the nationally ranked tennis team for four years. She earned All-America honors as a doubles player her junior and senior years and was a captain during her senior season. Short was named to the North Coast Athletic Conference First Team three times and holds the school record for most single-season doubles victories with 25.
