Guevel Wins Two Events at Case Western Reserve in Dual Action

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team fell to University Athletic Association foe Case Western Reserve, 95-32, in dual meet action Saturday, February 4 in Cleveland, Ohio.  Their score combined with the men was not enough, giving Case Western Reserve the higher combined point total (153-101) and claim to the Obelisk Trophy in 2012.

For the second straight season at the event, sophomore Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) won the 55-meter hurdles and the 55-meter dash.  The sophomore crossed with a time of 8.49 in the hurdles and 7.45 in the dash. Guevel also turned in a third-place showing in the 200-meter run with a time of 27.71.

Freshman Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) won the 400-meter dash in 1:02.84 and freshman Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) crossed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.38.  

In the field events, senior Ivana Moses (New Rochelle, N.Y./Phillips Exeter) turned in two second-place finishes.  Her first came in the long jump with a distance of 5.09 meters and then had a jump of 10.75 meters in the triple jump.

The Tartans will next compete at Bucknell University on Saturday, February 11.
