Tartans Sit in Fourth Place Following First Day of UAA Championships

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's indoor track and field team competed at the first day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 23 held on the campus of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. For the second straight season, junior Samantha Oleson (Hopkinton, Mass.) earned All-UAA honors in the weight throw leading the Tartans to fourth-place after the first day.

Oleson placed second with a career-best toss of 13.43 meters.  Fellow junior Jane Kim (Clifton, Va./Centreville) also recorded a career-best throw of 12.53 meters to place third and claim All-UAA distinction.   

Senior Emily Wobb (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) also collected points for the Tartans on Saturday when she crossed fourth in the 5,000-metr run with a career-best time of 17:36.23.   

Washington University leads the team standings with 49 points. University of Chicago is second at 32, Emory University (Ga.) is third at 21, followed by the Tartans in fourth at 20. Brandeis University (Mass.) is fifth at 15, New York University has 12 points, while the host Spartans tallied six.

Competition resumes Sunday, February 24 at 9:00 a.m. with the field events. Running events begin at 12:00 p.m.
