Brown's First-Place Finish Paces Tartans at RMU
(CORAOPOLIS, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team traveled to Robert Morris University Saturday afternoon to compete in the 2014 Bennie Benson Memorial Invitational in a field of Division I, II, and III competition.
Junior distance runner, Hailey Brown (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville), grabbed the title for the Tartans in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Brown stopped the clock with a time of 11:57.02 which was more than 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Senior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) finished third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:03.99. Guevel also tabbed a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter high hurdles crossing the finish line with a time of 15.79.
In the 200-meter dash, junior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) finished sixth with a time of 26.44.
Freshman Ariel Tian (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional) grabbed another seventh-place finish for the Tartans in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.92.
Another freshman, Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless), tied for sixth-place in the high jump with a final leap of 1.48 meters.
The Tartans will be competing this Wednesday, April 16 at Gesling Stadium in the Carnegie Mellon Tri Meet.
