Tartans Place Third at Bob Shannon Invitational

(GRANVILLE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at the Denison University Bob Shannon Invitational on Saturday, February 6, placing third amongst 10 teams. Overall, the Tartans won four events.

Junior Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless) won the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters, while freshman Hannah Mahon (Norwich, Vt./Hanover) placed third, clearing 1.45 meters. Mahon later placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.69 meters.

The Tartans finished 1-2 in the 800-meter run when freshman Rose Ciriello (Madison, N.J./Madison) crossed first in 2:23.97. Sophomore Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) was right on her heels with a time of 2:24.46. Senior Liz Snyder (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) earned the victory in the 3,000-meter run with a meet record time of 10:49.93.

Junior Sommer Farber (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) finished third in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.43 seconds while Fortner was forth in a time of 9.58 seconds. In another sprint event, sophomore Jerilyn James (Friendswood, Texas/Clear Brook) crossed seventh in the 60-meter dash in 8.47 seconds while she was also seventh in 200-meter dash in 28.21. Junior Ariel Tian (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional) was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.49.

The team closed the meet with a victory in the 4x400-meter relay. James, Tian, Ciriello and Cook finished the race in 4:16.50.

The Tartans will be back in action on Saturday, February 13 when they travel to Tiffin University for the Dragon Invitational.
