Tartans Win Second Straight Bob Shannon Invitational

(GRANVILLE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at the Denison University Bob Shannon Invitational on Saturday, February 3, and won event for the second straight season with 118 points. Ohio Wesleyan University took second with 96.5 points.

The Tartans swept the mile run with sophomore Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) winning the event in 5:17.93. Juniors Rose Ciriello (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Wade Lacey (Albany, N.Y./The Albany Academies) finished second and third with times of 5:27.71 and 5:29.69, respectively.

Sophomore Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:03.48 and freshman Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) placed second after crossing in 19:07.46.

Senior Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) turned in two second-place showings. The senior crossed with a time of 27.24 in the 200-meter dash and 59.26 in the 400-meter race. Junior Debarati Bhanja (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) took third with a time of 1:01.10 in the 400-meter race.

Sophomore Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) placed third in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.35 meters. The Tartans turned in two more third-place finishes in the field events with junior Autumn Hair (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) jumping 10.12 meters in the triple jump and senior Kiersten Chuc (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) tossed the element 13.85 meters in the weight throw.

The Tartans will next compete at the Dragon Invitational hosted by Tiffin University on Saturday, February 10.
