Barre Named UAA Outdoor Women’s Most Outstanding Performer in Field Events

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior Liz Barre of the Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team was honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) when the 2023 UAA Outdoor Track and Field awards were announced Monday. Barre was named Most Outstanding Performer in the field events becoming the first Tartan female to receive the honor for field events as well as the first to win two titles in field events, three overall, at the outdoor championships.

Barre won the long jump and high jump, with her first title coming in the long jump, as she broke her previous school record jump of 5.52 meters when she leapt 5.86 meters. The senior then closed the championships winning the high jump with a school record and UAA record height of 1.72 meters. She again topped her previous school record of 1.70 meters she set early this season. Barre also claimed the UAA title in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing with a personal-best time of 14.21.

Barre joins Jacqueline Guevel (2011) as the only other female Tartan to earn UAA Most Outstanding Performer in either field or running events at an UAA Outdoor Championships. Guevel was honored for running events and claimed UAA Rookie of the Year honors that same season as well.
