Tartans Place Fourth at UAA Indoor Championships

(NEW YORK, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team placed fourth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by New York University at The Armory in New York, New York. The two-day event started Saturday, February 24, and finished Sunday, February 25, with the Tartans earning 56.5 points.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • Senior Liz Barre took second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.77 seconds, one one-hundredths of a second off the winner.
  • Barre later placed third in the 200-meter run with an indoor career-best time of 25.41.
  • Senior Isabella Rhee placed fifth in the 400-meter run with a career-best time of 58.66 seconds.
  • Sophomore Jacqueline Liu earned two points for the team with a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run in a career-best time of 2:17.45.
  • Despite not placing in the top eight of the 3,000-meter run, sophomore Orit Shiang, senior Sophia Zalewski, and freshman Maya Ducker all recorded personal-best times. Shiang dropped 14 seconds off her previous best to set a new school record at 10:00.15. Zalewski dropped 20 seconds and Ducker dropped seven seconds.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Zoe King, senior Emily Lannen, Rhee, and junior Sunny Tang closed the meet with a fifth-place finish in a season-best time of 4:02.34.

Top Performances on the Field:

  • Barre won the high jump after clearing the bar set at 1.68 meters.
  • Junior Jocelyn Kiefel hit a personal best in the triple jump at 11.35 meters to place sixth.
  • Sophomore Iniyaa Mohanraj also hit a personal-best leap in the triple jump at 11.11 meters to place eighth.
  • Junior Taylor Symonette threw the shot put 11.30 meters to place eighth and earned a point for the Tartans. Freshman Sara Christie was ninth with a person-best mark of 10.46 meters.
