4x400-Meter Relay Ends Tartans Annual Invite With a Victory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team hosted its annual Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Gesling Stadium. The Tartans turned in seventeen top eight finishes in a field comprised of Division I, II and III institutions.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • The Tartans closed the meet with a first place showing in the 4x400 meter relay. Senior Isabella Rhee, senior Emily Lannen, junior Sunny Tang and senior Emma Nilson finished in a time of 4:08.20.
  • Graduate student Liz Barre placed first in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 1:03.03.
  • In the 3000-meter run, freshman Ananya Devpura placed first with a time of 11:01.59. Freshman Kara Mathias followed in fifth place with a time of 11:25.92 and junior Lauryn McKenna followed in seventh place with a time of 11:37.58.
  • Rhee placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.72, followed by Liu in fourth place with a time of 2:18.85.
  • A second place showing came from sophomore Orit Shiang in the 5,000-meter
    run when she crossed in 17:34.91
  • Sophomore Jacqueline Liu crossed sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a
    career-best time of 4:47.24.
  • Freshman Alaina Patel ran to a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase
    crossing in 12:28.06.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Senior JoJo Huczko placed sixth in pole vault with a mark of 3.13 meters.
  • Junior Taylor Symonette took seventh in the shot put with a career-best mark of
    12.23 meters.
  • Junior Kayla Rountree placed seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 42.77
    meters.
  • Barre tied for second place in the long jump with a mark of 5.13 meters. Sophomore Zoe King placed sixth with a mark of 5.03 meters.
  • Sophomore Iniyaa Mohanraj earned fourth place in the triple jump with a mark of 10.49 meters.
  • Junior Jolie Wasserman placed eighth in javelin throw with a mark of 33.45 meters.
