Tartans Open Season at Ohio Northern

(ADA, Ohio) – Carnegie Mellon University's volleyball team opened its season at the Ohio Northern University Tournament Friday and Saturday, August 31 and September 1.  The Tartans dropped matches to the host Ohio Northern, Wooster, Heidelberg and Trine.

On Friday in the Tartans 3-0 setback to Wooster, junior Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/St. Mary's Hall) recorded six kills and four total blocks.  In the nightcap against Ohio Northern, the Tartans fell 3-1.  Sophomore Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) led the charge with 15 kills while junior Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) ended the contest with 12 kills.  Junior setter Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) picked up 26 assists and 11 digs while freshman Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) added 10 assists. The Tartans defense shined agaisnt the Bears totaling 19 blocks with Celentano recording four block assists and one block solo to lead the charge.

The Tartans Saturday afternoon dropped both their matches 3-1 with the first coming at the hands pf Heidelberg.  In the setback Parsa recorded seven kills and three total blocks with Wright tallying 20 assists.  Junior Kerry Hennessy (Walnut Creek, Calif./Bentley) led the defense with 10 digs.

In the Tartans final match of the weekend against Trine, junior Mary Stadelman (Washington, Pa./Trinity) totaled nine kills. Parsa had eight kills.  Lawlis had 22 assists and added five digs.

The Tartans will be back on the court on Wednesday, September 5, as they travel to Marietta at 7:00 p.m.
