Tartans Have Strong Showing in Setback at Marietta

(MARIETTA, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team traveled to Marietta, Ohio Wednesday, September 5 and came away with a 3-2 setback to the Pioneers.  The Tartans are now 0-5 on the season while Marietta remains undefeated at 5-0. In a close tight match, the Tartans won the first two games by the score of 26-24 before falling 25-22, 27-25 and 16-14.

Three Tartans recorded double digit kills with sophomore Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) leading the way with 16.  Juniors Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) and Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) ended with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.  Junior setter Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) picked up 43 assists and recorded two service aces. Miller and senior Kasey LaMothe (Bedford Hills, N.Y./School of the Holy Child) each tallied two service aces in the setback.  

Defensively, sophomore Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) totaled a career-high 31 digs while Wright also had a career-high 26 digs. Miller ended the evening with 16 digs. In total, the Tartans had 18 block assists with freshman Rebecca Wolfinger (Pleasnaton, Calif./Amador Valley) accounting for eight along with one block solo.  Celentano turned in six block assists.   

The Tartans travel to Hiram, Ohio Friday and Saturday, September 7-8 as they compete in the Hiram Volleyball Invitational.
