UAA Announces All-Association 25-Year Volleyball Honorees

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - In honor of its silver anniversary, the University Athletic Association has announced its All-Association 25-Year Volleyball Team. Forty-five student-athletes earned the honor, including two from Carnegie Mellon University.

The team consists of each student-athlete who was named Most Valuable Player or accumulated at least five points with two points awarded for All-Association first-team recognition and one point for second-team honors in her career.

Carnegie Mellon's honorees were Stephanie Szobota (1996-1999) and Lauren Schmidt (1999-2002). Szobota was named the UAA Most Valuable Player in 1999 while also garnering first-team recognition. In 1998 she was named to the second team. For her career, Szobota tallied 1,508 kills and an attack percentage of .303 ranking her in the top five for both categories. She also ranks in the top five for career blocks with 177 block solos, 210 block assists and 387 total blocks. Szobota was also named a AVCA All-Region player.

Schmidt was the only Carnegie Mellon player to ever be named to the UAA first team more than once, as she was honored by the Association's coaches as a first-team player all four years. She was also named the Most Valuable Player as a junior in 2001. Schmidt is the current Carnegie Mellon career kills leader with 2,201 and is second in attack percentage at .308. She landed 183 serve attempts as aces which is fourth best in Carnegie Mellon history and until two years ago held the top spot in digs with 2,215. Schmidt also holds the season records for kills with 651 and digs with 646 and finished her career as a two-time AVCA All-American.
