(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team hosted the final day of the university Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 on Sunday, October 14. After the Tartans dropped a 3-0 decision to #1 Washington University they rebounded with a 3-1 win over Brandeis University. Carnegie Mellon is now 12-14 overall and 2-5 in UAA play.
Sophomore Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) turned in double digit kills in the win over of the Judges with 11 to lead the Cardinal and Gray. Freshman Rebecca Wolfinger (Pleasnaton, Calif./Amador Valley) posted a career-high nine kills while junior Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/St. Mary's Hall) also ended with nine for the Tartans. The setting tandem of freshman Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) and junior Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) totaled 34 assists, as Lawalis had 18 and Wright 16. Wright added four service aces in the win.
Defensively, sophomore Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) had 27 digs. Mora led the Tartans with five block assists.
In the Tartans setback to Washington, junior Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) totaled six kills in leading the home team. Nichols had 13 digs while Miller added 10.
The Tartans will next compete at Frostburg State University Tri-Match Saturday, October 20 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Carnegie Mellon will play Salisbury before facing the host Bobcats.
